See what your coins could be worth
Keepmint identifies your coin, gives an AI value estimate, and keeps the estimated value of your whole collection next to what you actually paid.
Know what you have
Value starts with the exact coin. Keepmint identifies it from photos of both sides: country, year, metal and edge.
Get an estimate
On the Expert plan, Keepmint gives an AI value estimate for the coin. On any plan, you can record your own estimate.
Watch it add up
Your collection screen shows the estimated value, the total you paid and the difference, across all your coins.
What makes a coin worth more than face value
Most coins in circulation are worth exactly their face value. The ones worth more usually have one or more of these:
- Precious metal. US dimes, quarters and half dollars dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver, so their metal alone is worth more than their face value. Many older world coins are silver too.
- Rarity. A low mintage, a scarce mint mark or a year with few surviving coins can make a coin far more valuable than common dates of the same type.
- Condition. Wear, scratches, cleaning and corrosion all affect value. Collectors describe condition with grades from Poor to Mint State.
- Errors and varieties. Doubled dies, off-center strikes and coins struck on the wrong metal can attract strong interest.
- Demand. Popular series attract more buyers, and that moves prices.
How to double-check a value
- Compare with recent completed sales of the same coin in a similar condition, not with asking prices.
- Look the coin up in a standard reference, such as the Red Book for US coins, or the public price guides from grading services like PCGS and NGC.
- For a coin that may be valuable, consider professional grading before you sell or insure it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check how much my coin is worth?
Identify the coin first: country, denomination, year and mint mark. Then judge its condition honestly, and compare it with recent sales of the same coin in a similar condition. Keepmint helps with the first steps and, on the Expert plan, gives an AI value estimate.
Is the Keepmint value an appraisal?
No. Values in Keepmint are estimates to help you follow your collection. They are not appraisals, authentication, or financial advice. For valuable coins, check recent sales and consider a professional grading service.
Which plan includes the value estimate?
The AI value estimate is available on the Expert plan. On every plan you can record your own estimated value and the price you paid for each coin.
Why are old silver coins worth more than face value?
US dimes, quarters and half dollars dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver, so they are worth at least the value of their silver. Many other countries also struck circulating coins in silver.
Should I clean a coin before checking its value?
No. Cleaning leaves marks that collectors and graders notice, and it usually lowers the value. Hold coins by the edge and store them dry.
